CAIRNS &
EAST COAST

her recent visit to
Australia, where she gained
experience that helped her to qualify as an
Aussie Specialist.
"We flew from
Alice Springs to Cairns in
Queensland. With
just a few hours in a plane we were in totally different surroundings. Alice Springs is desert-like with an
orange landscape and on arrival in Cairns it’s a delight
to find a real
tropical city with fabulous palm trees and a gorgeous
climate.
Cairns is not a huge city and is a great base
for trips to
Cape Tribulation or for the more
adventurous, diving in the
Great Barrier Reef.
Before we left Ireland we purchased a 10-day tour
(available from Lillis Travel) down along the East Coast, which
included our Premier bus pass.
We visited
Airlie Beach
a gorgeous seaside town and went
on a 2day sailing trip to the
Whitsunday Islands from
there.
Snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef off Cook’s
bay was amazing.
Continuing south along the East Coast we stopped at
Hervey Bay
which is a perfect base for trips to
Fraser Island.
We stayed in a Noosa, a really
beautiful town, and went on a day trip to the
Steve
Irwin Australia Zoo from here.
This was a great day out, got my picture taken
with a
Koala (see top of page!) and also a snake!
There were lots of crocodiles present
as well.
From Noosa we continued on to
Brisbane. Brisbane is a lovely City.
Our stay here was very short but I would definitely
recommend to anyone travelling the East Coast to include
a few days in Brisbane.
We journeyed onwards on to
Byron Bay from Brisbane.
Byron Bay is a haven
for Surfers. The range of water sports available in Byron
is almost unlimited.
The
lighthouse in Byron bay is beautiful. It is the most
Eastern point of Australia. On the way to the
lighthouse I met a wild
Kangaroo
carrying a baby in its pouch. That was a truly memorable
moment on our trip
At the end of our 10 day tour we flew From Brisbane to Sydney".
