SYDNEY
Mairead
O'Halloran from Lillis Travel,
Kilrush, recounts
her recent visit to
Australia, where she gained
experience that helped her to qualify as an
Aussie Specialist.
This is Mairead's account of her visit to Sydney:
"I travelled to Australia with Qantas & British Airways.
I departed from Cork to
London Heathrow with Aer Lingus
and onwards from London to Singapore with British
Airways.
The choice of in flight entertainment with both Qantas &
B.A fantastic which really helps to pass a few hours on
a long journey. There was a wide choice of movies, CD’s
& games with very up to date releases.
Sydney is a fantastic city. We spent four nights in
Sydney. It was very easy to get around with
great public
Transport.
Cirular Quay is a beautiful area of Sydney.
It is the perfect location for the ferry to Manly and
Manly Beach. This is a great trip
from Sydney as you have amazing views of the
Opera House
And the
Bridge
from the boat on the way in from Manly.
The more adventurous visitor may wish to climb the
famous Harbour Bridge. It is definitely not
for the faint hearted and takes approximately 3.5 hours.
We
also took a visit to the Famous
Bondi
Beach but I have
to say I much preferred Manly.
We stayed on George Street. This is a very
central location, a short distance from the Underground
and within walking distance of Paddy's market, one of
the largest outdoor markets I have visited.
If you should feel a little homesick in Sydney, go to
"The Rocks".
"The Rocks" is a really pretty area with cobble stones,
vibrant bars, trendy restaurants and cafes.
Souvenir shops in this area are quite expensive, but
there are other gift opportunities in the Shopping
centres.
King's Cross is one of the darker areas of Sydney and
has a reputation for its somewhat seedy atmosphere.
King's Cross has lots of adult clubs and flashing lights
- not for everyone's taste! I got off
at the wrong stop on the Underground and found myself
there and popped into a taxi very promptly!
If you enjoy a spot of shopping, ladies, the CBD
Shopping Centre is the place to go. Be
warned, it is huge, so allow plenty of time.
Sydney really is a beautiful city and there are numerous
tour and excursion offers available to visitors.
Sydney was our final stop in Australia and I was very sad
to leave but there is so much more to see next time..The
West
Coast & the great ocean drive & much more!
Sydney Airport is an extremely busy airport.
Travellers should allow plenty of time for check-in.
From Sydney we flew home via
BANGKOK, Thailand."
