ALGARVE
Mairead
has visited the Algarve and recommends
Portugal's
Algarve as an ideal holiday destination for holiday
makers from Shannon.
"The flight from Shannon to
Faro", says Mairead "is just a 2½ hour flight,
which is just fantastic".
"A pre-arranged transfer took us from the
Airport to
Montechoro. We assist our
customers to pre-arrange this transfer as the transfer
time is approximately 1 hour."
"My accommodation was in Montechoro.
Montechoro is a very hilly resort, leading to the lovely
Oura Beach. There is a very
steep incline from the main strip in Montechoro to the
level of the beach.
Nearby Albuferia is approximately 20 minutes
on foot from Montechoro. There is a
tourist
train in Montechoro which operates every 15 minutes at
peak time to the Town of Albuferia. This
is a very enjoyable way to take in the scenery.
Albuferia's Old Town is just beautiful.
Restaurants and Bars are to be found in abundance
decorating the lovely, cobbledstoned streets.
Overall, I found an excellent food selection
in Portugal and eating out was also very reasonably
priced by Irish standards.
I would not recommend Montechoro/Albuferia
for people with mobility problems. Parents
with young children in strollers could find the terrain
quite daunting...there are a lot of steep inclines and
steps. Also the walking distance from the
resort centre to the beach is not insignificant and
could be very tiring for the unfit.
The
Modelo Shopping Centre in Albuferia is
well worth a visit on days when the weather is unkind.
I visited the Algarve in the month of May.
This was the very start of the Season. The
weather was quite mixed. It rained on and
off for most of the week while I was there.
If I was planning another visit, I would be inclined to
wait until a little further into the Season."
