"Renata & I were extremely lucky as both of us had our
first educational trip to
South Africa in December 2007.
The best time of year to visit
South Africa is our winter months from November to
March. This is a perfect destination for Irish
travellers seeking sunshine at this time of year.
Cape Town offers visitors a wide variety of attractions
especially its famous Table Mountain. This is a perfect
base for exploring the surrounding areas whether you
decide to do the Garden route or the Winelands route.
Car hire is a suitable option for Irish tourists as
there are excellent roads which are very well signposted
and cars are right hand drive with driving on the left
carriageway.
On our particular trip we travelled on the Winelands
route, we visiting some beautiful little towns such as
Hermanus which offers some of the best on-shore whale
watching worldwide.
Stellenbosch is a fantastic town which is home to Spier
Village. This was the highlight of our trip; you will
get a taste of
South African Culture all in one complex. There is a
wine tasting centre, a cheetah reserve, a market where
you can purchase local crafts, and there
is a fantastic restaurant called Moyo where you can eat
on tree top if you wish or under the stars with an open
fire blazing beside you.
The range of accommodation available is of an amazing
standard and there is something to suit all budgets.
The V & A waterfront shopping centre offers a wide
variety of shops and restaurants for those who enjoy
some retail therapy.
Within Cape Town itself if you want to you can relax on
the beach away from the hustle & bustle of the city,
Camps Bay is also within easy reach of the city centre.
The garden route allows visitors to explore the wildlife
of
South Africa
where you can take in Safari trips.
