SKI IN ZAKOPANE, POLAND

Renata on the ski slopes

Although based in Ireland at present, while working with Lillis Travel, Renata is very familiar with ski opportunities in Poland, in particular Zakopane, just two hours from Krakow.   This is what Renata has to say about ski holidays in Poland.

"Skiing opportunities in Poland are not only satisfactory, but also very affordable. In Poland you will  find a wide range of slopes, walking routes and accommodation at very low prices in relation to the standards
provided.

Tatras has the best prepared and the most frequented ski resorts in the region. The highest and the most impressive hilltop is Rysy at 2499 meters.

The most popular destination here is Zakopane which is known as the Winter Capital of Poland. Zakopane has access to over 50 world-class ski lifts and slopes and this number is constantly growing due to the exploding popularity of the region. Zakopane attracts around 3 million tourists each year and offers a host of winter activities, including skiing, mountain hiking and a number of leisure possibilities.

Your first stop in Zakopane should be the longest and most famous street in this resort called Krupowki. Here, you can try original cuisine, buy traditional products and, finally, have a great evening and night in multiple bars and clubs. Restaurants, cafes and shops can be found on every corner.

To sample the cuisine  of Polish highlanders you can try the local salty cheese oscypek sold from stalls as well as traditional cottage cheese bryndza.

Skiing areas in Zakopane are spread around the town.

At the top of the list is Kasprowy Wierch, this mountain is 3 km (1.86 miles) away from resort and is very popular, you can reach it summit by the cable car from Kuznice. There you can ski on two treeless bowls Hala Gasiennicowa and Hala Goryczkowa.

Another skiing spot is Gubalowka, which can be easily reached from Zakopane's main street – Krupowki (the closest slopes to the town) via the newly built railcar or one of many T-bar style lifts.

Nosal with fantastic views on a clear day is a next top choice around here. With a chair-lift and over 10 T lifts, you won't be bored.

How affordable is "affordable?" Well here are some general prices:
(3.80 PLN = approx. € 1)

Accommodation:

Apartment for 1 week in 3* accommodation in Zakopane centre,
self-catering, costs from 1200 PLN = approx. € 150 (based on 2 Adults)

If you wish to book accommodation please contact us.

Ski Rental:
All Day for 30 - 40 PLN = approx. € 12

Ski Passes at:
Nosal - 15 rides for 50 PLN = approx. € 14
Gubalowka - 10 rides for 50 PLN = approx. € 14
Kasprowy Wierch - 1 ride for approx. 10 PLN = approx. € 4

Driving from Kraków:

From Krakow to Zakopane is an 105 km (approx. 2 hours) drive
To get there you can follow these directions:
- leave Krakow and drive for 9 km
- then take route E77 / 7
- after 55 km take route 47
- drive for 39 km, passing by Nowy Targ city
- after about 1.6 km you should arrive at Zakopane.

By train:

PKP Inter city, express and local trains from Krakow stops at Zakopane station. Zakopane train station is in the town centre.

There are also continuous taxi and bus connections to the individual parts of the town. Taxis and buses are available regularly.

Airport transfer:

If you wish to book a transfer between Krakow airport and Zakopane
or if you wish to hire a car please contact us.

We have a co-operative agreement with a Polish based company to put together local arrangements to tie in with the many flight arrangements now available to Krakow."

Brian
Due to Brian's retirement from the Travel business in November 2009, we are not taking ski bookings this Winter.   As this WebPage has proved very popular with a consistently high ranking in Google we are leaving this page available as an information resource and also to publicise the fact that it is still business as usual and our highly experienced, friendly and dedicated consultants are accepting bookings up to a 30th November departure date where full payment has been made by 30th October next - this is to fulfil the terms of our Bond.

In the meantime please read on.   Go to our HOME page for a list of our destination WebPages, or read Latest News and Special Offers for details of current offers.   Why not take a short break to Krakow or any of the Polish Destinations available from Ireland.   Renata plans to  be with us up to Brian's retirement date.
