TRAVEL INSURANCE
 Brian discusses
Travel Insurance.
The terms: "Travel Insurance, don't leave home
without it" and "No one needs Travel Insurance until
they need Travel Insurance" are the truest phrases on
Earth.
To illustrate this I asked Ireland's leading Travel
Insurer to give me examples of incidents that could have
cost a fortune had the customer not purchased Travel

"Accident - last
year we had a young lad travelling around the world. He
was in SE Asia and was out with his friends one
night. He got a moped "taxi" home - but the driver
crashed it on the way, the bike flipped and crushed the
young man's leg. He was brought by helicopter to the
hospital and then flown to Bangkok to receive more
treatment. He was
finally brought home to Ireland once he was feeling
better.
Cost: €40,000
Medical - Client
collapsed on a weekend trip to New York last Autumn. It
was not a
pre-existing condition so the client was fully covered.
Cost: €20,000 for a 24 hour
overnight in hospital..

Best example I can think of, and
one that people tend to forget, is the Travel
Delay/Abandonment section. If client has checked in on
time for their flight and it is
delayed by more than 24 hours due to strike, bad weather
or mechanical breakdown,
they can "abandon" the trip (affectively cancelling the
trip). Clients can
then recoup all losses and book another holiday.
Also, new for 2008, we have two niche "extras".
1. Event Cancellation
Client can cancel a holiday if it is
based
around a specific event (e.g. Wedding abroad, Premier
League Football match,
Cheltenham, Concert etc) and the event is cancelled or
re-scheduled for greater than 24 hours later than
originally planned.
2. Non-Operation of Flight
If a point-to-point airline pulls a
flight at
short notice and clients are left stranded at the
airport, this cover givesa benefit of up to €500 to
purchase an alternative.
These are some simple examples of cases where
purchasing Travel Insurance was an extremely wise
investment.
